Covenant is a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). We were born in 1983, built our first building on Barker Cypress Road in 1989, and relocated to 3785 Barker Cypress in 2005, and moved to our current location at 2901 Barker Cypress in the fall of 2021.
Lutherans
believe in the Triune God. God created and loves all of creation -- the
earth and the seas and all of the world’s inhabitants. Thus we are a
community that welcomes all people regardless of differences of age,
gender, orientation or race. We believe that God's Son, Jesus Christ,
saves, redeems and transforms lives through his death on the cross and
his resurrection to new life. And we trust that God's Spirit is active
in the world.
We are part of God’s unfolding plan. When we gather for worship, we connect with believers everywhere. When we study the Bible or hear God’s word in worship, we are drawn more deeply into God’s own saving story. We believe that we are joined to the death and resurrection of Jesus through our baptism, and that Jesus comes to us to strengthen our faith and forgive our sins as we receive Him in the bread and wine of Holy Communion.
We believe that a faithful congregation is a community of moral discourse where all people do not necessarily agree with one another about all things but their common commitment to God's purposes in their lives allows space for honest disagreement and common reflection.
The convictions shared by Christians from many different traditions are expressed in statements of belief called creeds. As Lutherans, we affirm and use these creeds in worship because they clearly state the faith of the church through the ages and around the world. The Confession of Faith of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America is part of our founding constitution. The ELCA accepts the following creeds as true declarations of the faith of this church: The Apostles' Creed, The Nicene Creed, and The Athanasian Creed.
